Five of the nine Supreme Court justices will miss President Donald Trump's State of the Union address Monday night.

It was reported over the weekend that Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will not attend the speech because of a prior engagement. The Washington Examiner published the full list of members of the court Tuesday who will not attend the speech in the House chamber on Capitol Hill.

Associate Justices Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy, Sonia Sotomayor, and Clarence Thomas also won't witness Trump's speech in person, the Examiner reported.

Kennedy and Sotomayor have other plans, while Alito has not been to a State of the Union since he shook his head during former President Barack Obama's 2010 SOTU speech. Thomas has said in the past the annual speech is a partisan event that he has no interest in attending, the Examiner reported.

The absence of five justices means just four will attend the speech: Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, and Neil Gorsuch.

Trump appointed Gorsuch last January and he was installed on the bench in April.

Members of the Supreme Court who attend the State of the Union do not stand or clap as the president speaks in order to remain impartial as justices.
