Ted Cruz Says He's Now Ready to Work to Help Trump, Republicans Succeed

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose bitter campaign fights with Donald Trump made headlines over the summer, said Thursday he met for a "very productive" meeting with the new president-elect in New York, but would not say if that meeting included becoming part of Trump's cabinet or another executive level job in his administration.

"I spent several hours in Trump Tower and had a chance to meet with the president-elect, the vice president-elect, senior members of the transition team and I think we had very good and productive conversations about how we can work together to really deliver on the promises made to the American people," Cruz told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" about Wednesday's meeting.

But, telling the program he already has an "incredible job" representing 27 million Texans, Cruz said he's "eager" to work for Trump in "whatever capacity where I can have the greatest impact defending the principles that I was elected to defend, defending the principles of freedom, defending the Constitution."

Cruz said he and the team also spent a great deal of time talking about how when voters gave Republicans control of the White House and Congress, "we have got to deliver."

He also denied reports of Trump's transition team being in chaos, calling that news "complete silliness."

"Nobody should be surprised that there are media critics who tried to throw rocks at the president-elect," said Cruz. "It's a transition team. They don't want the president to succeed. What I saw was men and women working hard with an enormous task in front of them."

Cruz also criticized protesters around the country who are refusing to accept Trump's win, and said the nation has seen "hypocrisy on rank display from the left."

"All of those folks jumped on their high horse lecturing Donald Trump, [saying] 'you have got to accept the results of the election,'" said Cruz. "These are the people who are laying their bodies down in front of cars and disrupting traffic.

"We had an election. The people spoke . . . these idiots rioting in the streets are the same people who demanded President-elect Trump accept the results of the election."
