Texas Sen. Ted Cruz praised President Donald Trump's speech to Congress Tuesday night, calling it a "bold, positive speech" that laid out a vision for America that "millions of Americans have been hungry for."

After eight years of economic stagnation and job loss, Americans want to see a growing economy and the repeal of Obamacare, Cruz told Fox News Channel.

"It was an encouraging night," he said.

Cruz said that one of the most poignant moments was when the Trump recognized the families of those who have been murdered by criminal illegal aliens.

Cruz said he has visited with family members of murder victims himself, as well as agents patrolling the border who have been unhappy with former President Barack Obama's release of violent criminal illegal immigrants.

The Texas Republican said Congress will look at Trump's budget proposals, including more spending on infrastructure.

"There's no doubt we have to be serious about the national debt," he said. "But the most potent tool for dealing with with the deficit is not cost, its economic growth. It is why my number one priority in the senate is and always has been jobs and economic growth.
