President Donald Trump maintained his slim advantage over Democrat Joe Biden in Texas, leading 48% to 46%, according to a CBS News poll released on Sunday, after the president held a one-point lead in the previous poll in July.

Four percent of likely voters in Texas said they are "not sure" who they would vote for, while 2% they would choose someone else.

Other results from the poll indicate:

  • Among whites, Trump has a 63% to 31% lead, while Biden maintains a 61% to 30% advantage among Hispanics. Biden also holds a commanding advantage among likely Black voters, 86% to 8%.
  • Fifty percent  of likely voters said Trump would do a better job in dealing with the economy, while only 42% thought Biden would do so.
  • Regarding the coronavirus, however, 47% thought Biden would do a better job at handling the pandemic, while 43% said the same about Trump.
  • When asked about safety, 48% of likely voters in Texas said Trump would make them feel more secure, while  42% said Biden would make them feel that way.

The survey, conducted between Sept. 15 and 18, was among 1,161 registered voters in Texas and has a 3.5-percentage-point margin of error. The poll was concluded just before the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and it is unclear how her death and Trump's efforts to have the Senate vote on her successor before the election may influence voters.
