Tim Kaine, the running mate of Hillary Clinton, believes GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has lower ethical standards than Richard Nixon, who resigned as commander in chief during the Watergate scandal.
"Candidates for 40 years, both parties, this is not a partisan statement, have released their tax returns," Kaine said Tuesday at rally in Lancaster, Pa., The Hill reports.
Kaine's tax-return comments start at the 18:50 mark of the above video posted to YouTube by CHANNEL90seconds newscom.
"Richard Nixon released his tax returns. If you can't come up to the ethical standard of Richard Nixon, you should not be within 10 time zones of the White House....
"There is some basic information that voters are entitled to know about a person who wants to be president or commander in chief. He's refusing to answer the questions. Hillary has put out her family's tax returns going back to 1977, nearly 40 years, because they've been in public life a long time."
Trump says he will not release his tax returns until the IRS finishes a routine audit of them, but the agency has stated that audit doesn't prevent him from making them public.
