Sen. Tom Cotton Thursday accused House Democrats of staging a "stunt" through the interview of Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas, and he expects that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Adam Schiff will leak more "fabricated information" as the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump gets underway.
"Lev Parnas is currently under indictment," the Arkansas Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "This is a guy whose business was literally called Fraud, Inc. He goes from being the president's greatest champion to being on Rachel Maddow's show."
Nobody should be surprised that House Democrats are "pulling this kind of stunt," said Cotton. "In fact, I would predict that Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff throughout the Senate trial will continue to leak oftentimes fabricated information, which I believe is what some of Lev Parnas put out over the weekend."
Parnas Wednesday night told Maddow on MSNBC that his work in Ukraine was on behalf of Trump and the United States, and that Trump "knew exactly what was going on."
Cotton also ridiculed Pelosi for handing out commemorative pens after signing the articles of impeachment against Trump.
"Yeah, a very solemn and prayerful moment," said Cotton. "We thought that she may have had some grand strategy for delaying the impeachment trial for 28 days. Maybe she was just waiting for her special order pens to come in ... ultimately, no matter what the allegations are, they are impeaching the president for the same unforgivable sin, beating Hillary Clinton in 2016."
He added that Trump's signing of the phase one trade deal with China was "a lot more important and memorable" than Pelosi's "fake signing ceremony" of the impeachment articles, as the deal is good news for the nation's farmers and manufacturers.
