Health and Human Service Secretary Tom Price could be fired over his use of a private jet for official business, according to President Donald Trump, who told reporters Wednesday he is "not happy" about it.
"I am not happy about it," Trump said in response to reporters' questions. "I'm going to look at it. I am not happy about it, and I let him know it."
Asked whether that meant he would fire Price, the president said, "We'll see."
Fox News reporter John Roberts told anchor Shepard Smith that Trump "had a look about him" when he said it indicated "the writing is on the wall."
Price has said he understands the criticism and has stopped using private flights for official business while the inspector general's office looks into it.
"As it relates to this issue, as the secretary said over the weekend, he's heard the criticism and the concerns," Caitlin Oakley, an HHS spokesperson, told The Hill. "He takes that very seriously and has taken it to heart."
Politico reported Price has taken at least 24 flights on private jets since May, costing taxpayers about $300,000, even when cheaper flights were available on commercial airlines.
Democrats on Capitol Hill have called on Price to resign, while most Republicans have said they will reserve judgment pending the IG report.
