Billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer, who has pushed for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, will not run for office in 2018, The Hill is reporting.

"I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help save our country," Steyer said. "And I believe the most important task for me, the task which I feel called to do, is organizing and mobilizing America's voters.

"I'm not going to run for office in 2018, that's not where I can make the biggest difference."

Instead, Steyer said he will channel $30 million toward his advocacy group, NextGen America, in an attempt get millennial voters to turn out for the 2018 midterm election and elect a Democratic majority in the House.

The Hill noted Steyer, who has spent more than $20 million on commercials for his "Need to Impeach" ad campaign against Trump, has long considered making a bid for office.

The Washington Post quoted Steyer as saying: "I'm going to continue to work on the grass-roots efforts we had in place, and amplify them, and make them bigger. We're going to register voters, then encourage them to participate.

"That means we want to talk about issues people care most about. We need to — just go back and look at millennial turnout in 2014, the last midterms. It's shocking how low it was."
