Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado says he can't cast his vote for fellow Republican Donald Trump in the presidential race in November because his words remind him of being taunted as a child.
"They said, 'Spic, go back home,'"
Regaldo told the Miami Herald. "Because I had very dark hair."
Regaldo, who was born in Cuba, supported Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in the GOP primaries, but when asked if he can support Trump now that he is the presumptive nominee, he said, "No, of course not."
"He mistreats people, speaks derisively of people," Regalado said. "A president's biggest asset is the bully pulpit. This guy is capable of creating national and international chaos."
Rubio himself has indicated he will
vote for his old rival, but other Miami-area Republicans say they will not, including former Gov. Jeb Bush and U.S. Reps. Carlos Curbelo and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
