While President Donald Trump has done a great job and is coming off a great week, "anything could happen," up to and including either Mike Bloomberg or former Vice President Joe Biden winning next November, according to billionaire Tom Barrack on Monday.
"I'm not a politician and I don't want to go over my skis even thinking about it, but anything could happen," Barrack, a Trump 2016 campaign adviser, told CNBC. "It's a very diverse group, I think every week is a new life for both Democrats and Republicans — the president had a very good week last week, the Democrats didn't have such a good week.
"But it's a long road. So, as everybody gets into their swim lanes, it could be a horse race at the end of the day."
That race might be Biden vs. Bloomberg, according to Barrack.
"So, I like many of the candidates — Joe Biden is a class act, he's a super man, he's a very gentle touch, he has a lot of experience," Barrack told CNBC. "Michael Bloomberg, nobody should count him out of the race. Strong, thoughtful, considerate, powerful, experienced — a long shot for sure in Democratic circles, but as the other candidates start to winnow out, you never can tell what happens."
Outside of praising Trump's presidency, Barrack added Bloomberg would "be an amazing president" and one that can run a self-funding campaign against the successful incumbent.
"I like Mike Bloomberg, I know him, I think he would be an amazing president, he was an amazing mayor," Barrack said. "He's run a first class business, he's smart, he's thoughtful, he's considerate, he's done it all before, and he doesn't need anything.
"So, in that sense, the idea of someone self-funding a campaign — because at the end of the day it's about money, it's about money in every country and every election, America even more so — I think it would be a great thing and you have some young candidates coming up on the Democratic side who this cycle may not serve them well, but it will eventually serve them well."
