An Indiana teacher has resigned after being called out for wearing a shirt with "8647" on it while accompanying a school group on a White House tour.
The Daily Mail reported that the situation developed after teacher Tonja Luken posted a photo of herself wearing the shirt in front of the White House with a colleague next to her.
The term "86" can apply to a range of meanings from getting rid of something to killing something. In the context of "8647," the use of "47" refers to the 47th president, Donald Trump.
In a related event, former FBI director and frequent Trump critic James Comey was called in to meet with federal investigators after he posted an image online depicting that combination of numbers. He claimed innocence.
Luken was a teacher for Middlebury Community Schools, a small town near South Bend. The school district posted about the situation, initially telling the community in a statement on the district website that the incident was under investigation.
The post said the district prohibits teachers from promoting political views while on the job.
"This prohibition applies to all teachers, regardless of their political leanings, and to every partisan political message, regardless of its content," the statement read.
The follow-up post by the district on Thursday indicated that when it informed Luken the district would initiate cancellation of her contract, "the teacher submitted her immediate resignation."
The Daily Mail reported that Luken, a married mother of five, has closed her public social media profiles.
