Richard Painter: Lie Detector Would 'Light Up' for Press Secretary

If the Trump administration wants to use lie detectors in the White House, one would "light up like a disco" if it was put at the press secretary's podium — and it would blow the fuses if one was placed on counselor Kellyanne Conway, former Bush administration ethics lawyer Richard Painter tweeted Friday.

Painter's comments came after Conway told Fox News that the Justice Department, in its crackdown on leakers, may or may not use lie detector tests to determine who has been leaking information to the media.

“They may, they may not,” Conway said. “There are many different ways to discover who is leaking.”

In his pair of tweets, Painter, who served under President George W. Bush, panned both Conway and the press secretary after the comments Conway made in response to Attorney General Jeff Sessions' announcement that the Justice Department was going to implement a crackdown on leakers.

New White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders pledged Wednesday she would "absolutely not" lie from the podium, as she does not think it appropriate to lie there or anywhere else.

"My job is to communicate the president's agenda, the president's message and answer your questions on that as best that I can, as honestly as I can, and be as transparent as I can possibly be at any given moment," Sanders said.
