It's Amazon — not Facebook — in the crosshairs of President Donald Trump, who's "obsessed" with clipping the shopping giant and has discussed using antitrust or competition laws against it, Axios reports.
While Facebook has stirred lawmakers for leveraging the privacy of its users as a core part of its business model, Trump sees Amazon as a threat to real estate and retailers, Axios reports.
"He's obsessed with Amazon," sources told Axios. "He's wondered aloud if there may be any way to go after Amazon with antitrust or competition law."
Trump has also more than once floated an internet tax, a not-so-subtle shot across the bow aimed at Amazon.
Further, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post, another frequent "fake news" target of the president's.
But Facebook was an invaluable tool for Trump to reach voters during the 2016 election.
"Trump told Axios last year he doesn't mind Facebook because it helps him reach his audience," Axios reporter Kim Hart said for this report. "He's an old-school businessman who sees the world in terms of tangible assets: real estate, physical mail delivery, Main Street, grocery stores."
