Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump on Saturday accused his Democratic rival of wanting to abolish the Second Amendment's protections on gun rights.

"Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment. She wants to abolish it," Trump told rallygoers in Lynden, Washington, according to multiple press reports. "Hillary Clinton wants to take your guns away, and she wants to abolish the Second Amendment. She wants to take the bullets away."

Trump said he will protect gun rights.

"We're going to cherish the Second Amendment. We're going to take care of the Second Amendment," Trump vowed.

Both CNN and The Hill note that Clinton has never said she favors abolishing the Second Amendment, but has advocated universal background checks and other gun restrictions.

Clinton recently told a rally in Pennsylvania she understands the importance of gun ownership and hunting.

"I want you to know that we can’t ignore the Second Amendment and we can’t ignore the 33,000 people a year who die from gun violence," she said. "And I think we are smart enough to figure out how to do that."

Clinton spokesman Jesse Lehrich accused Trump of ignoring the facts.
