Donald Trump's campaign Saturday sent out an emergency fundraising email to his supporters in hopes of raising at least $100,000 by the end of the day, marking the first such email to go out from the New York billionaire's self-funded campaign.
"Right now, we're facing an emergency goal of $100,000 to help get our ads on the air," the email reads,
according to The Hill. "We need your contribution by 11:59 p.m. tonight."
The request went out after Hillary Clinton's camp released a multimillion dollar ad campaign this week, and the email from the Trump campaign issues a warning about the "Crooked Hillary" ads.
"Crooked Hillary is about to invade your TV with ads attacking Mr. Trump," Saturday's message reads. "But we're preparing to fight back" with swings at Clinton's role in the Benghazi attacks and on the FBI probe into her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.
The email comes as Republican leaders voice concerns about Trump's funds heading into the general election campaign against Clinton's war chest, and while several prominent GOP donors, including the
billionaire Koch brothers, are keeping their wallets closed to the presumptive nominee.
Trump, though, said earlier this month that the will not need to raise more than the $1 billion he pledged for the general election, as he doesn't think he needs "nearly as much money as other people need because I get so much publicity."
