President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is seeking top secret-security clearance for his oldest three children and son-in-law, multiple news agencies are reporting.

Trump's children, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump, and Ivanka's husband, Jared Kushner, are all serving as members of Trump's transition team, but the family members have said they have no intention of serving in their father's administration.

Instead, they plan to run the family's vast business enterprise, which includes hotels, golf courses and casinos.

CBS News reported the Barack Obama White House would have to make an official request if the clearances are sought before Trump takes office. Afterward, Trump himself could make the request.

Trump's family would not be required to be government employees to receive top-secret clearance, and nepotism rules would prevent that anyway. They would simply have to fill out a security questionnaire (SF-86) and pass a background check.

"Obviously, we have known that . . . he was going to rely on his family a lot. Probably not quite that much," Washington Times reporter Charles Hurt said Monday on Fox News Channel's "Special Report." "But it isn't a surprise that he is going to rely on them . . . and I think a lot of people probably expected them to be involved with the administration itself."
