President Donald Trump Monday slammed Hillary Clinton as he expressed sympathy for his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.
"I feel badly for General Flynn," Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House, as he boarded Marine One before traveling to Utah.
"I feel very badly. He's led a very strong life, and I feel very badly," saying Flynn is being treated unfairly after pleading guilty to charges that he lied to the FBI.
"I will say this: Hillary Clinton lied many times to the FBI," Trump continued. “Nothing happened to her.
"Flynn lied, and they destroyed his life. I think it's a shame," the president said.
"Hillary Clinton, on the 4th of July weekend, went to the FBI, not under oath. It was the most incredible thing anyone's ever seen. She lied many times. Nothing happened to her. Flynn lied, and it's like they ruined his life. It's very unfair.""
However, the FBI never concluded that Clinton lied to agents. Former FBI Director James Comey testified last year that agents found Clinton to be truthful in her interview, telling a House committee, "we have no basis to conclude she lied to the FBI."
Flynn is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
Flynn, a retired Army general who was a senior adviser in Trump's election campaign, pleaded guilty on Friday to having lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with the Russian ambassador. He was charged as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the presidential election and possible collusion by Trump campaign aides.
Trump did not provide evidence or additonal detail about his accusation against Clinton. Clinton answered questions in July 2016 about her use of a private server for government
