Attorney Rudy Giuliani said President Donald Trump’s team of attorneys should be permitted to “correct” special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report before it is released to Congress and to the public.
His comments came Thursday during an interview with The Hill. He maintained Mueller’s investigators should first give the report to Trump’s lawyers for review.
“As a matter of fairness, they should show it to you — so we can correct it if they’re wrong,” said Giuliani, a member of Trump's personal legal team. “They’re not God, after all. They could be wrong.”
The Hill noted that until Giuliani’s comments, speculation had centered on whether the White House might push back on some of Mueller’s eventual report by citing executive privilege.
“Of course we have to see (the report) before it goes to Congress," Giuliani said. "We have reserved executive privilege and we have a right to assert it. The only way we can assert it is if we see what is in the report”
Meanwhile, Trump’s legal team has told Mueller that the president will not answer any more questions in the probe of Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election.
During the interview with The Hill, the former New York City mayor made light of Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen’s intention to testify in public before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Feb. 7.
Giuliani sarcastically said: “Big deal.”
