President Donald Trump's acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a holdover from Barack Obama's administration who helped write and also praised the former president's immigration policies, Breitbart reports.

But now Thomas Homan passes himself off as an immigration hawk, Breitbart reported.

Homan was Obama's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) director who received an award from President Obama for his efforts in making it more difficult to deport illegal aliens who were transgendered or had other "special vulnerabilities," Breitbart reported.

That does not sit well with the ICE Council president, who's miffed about Department of Homeland Security John Kelly's choice to be ICE director.

"I guess Secretary Kelly and Homan think if Homan just says a bunch of hardline immigration comments now, we will all forget what he did for Obama," ICE Council President Chris Crane told Breitbart.

"They think we will all just let it go and not talk about the fact that Homan praised Obama’s immigration policies, helped to write them, and even received an award from Obama for having done so. It's actually quite spineless and the ICE officers risking their lives for our country deserve a better leader," Crane told Breitbart.

Homan in September took credit for helping to author Obama's policies and praised former Department of Homeland Security Director Jeh Johnson.

"I can tell you, Secretary Johnson, I admire this man and I respect this man greatly," Homan said at the Migration Policy Institute’s annual conference.

"So I was actually involved with some of the authoring of these executive actions and the priorities. … The priority enforcement program makes sense from an officer safety perspective and I think it makes sense from a priorities perspective," Homan said during his speech, before Trump was elected president.
