Fifty-five percent of Americans approve of an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, though just 42 percent think the president deserves to be impeached over his conversation with Ukraine’s president where he asked the European leader to investigate Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden, according to a CBS News poll released Sunday.
Almost 90% of Democrats approve of the inquiry, compared with just 23% of Republicans.
Forty-one percent of Americans say Trump’s actions on Ukraine are illegal, compared with 31% who said it was not proper, but legal.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week announced the proceedings following the release of a whistleblower complaint detailing Trump’s conversation with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Trump on Sunday accused Democrats of “doing great harm to our country.”
“They are lying & cheating like never before in our Country’s history in order to destabilize the United States of America & it’s upcoming 2020 Election. They & the Fake News Media are Dangerous & Bad!” he tweeted.
