White House aide Hogan Gidley on Monday blasted CNN contributor Brian Karem for suggesting President Donald Trump was not working on the 10th day of the partial government shutdown and demanded he “correct the record.”
“I just looked into the Oval Office myself, and @POTUS was in fact sitting behind the Resolute Desk working,” Gidley said in a tweet. “So, now I’m just waiting for you and the rest of your ilk to either stop jumping to false conclusions, correct the record, or, here’s a thought, call the press team to ask.”
Karem earlier tweeted: “POTUS tweet minutes ago claimed he was in the Oval Office. No marine there so that’s another lie.”
His post included a photo of the West Wing. Other journalists tweeted similar photos, including Bloomberg’s Justin Sink and The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman.
Trump and Democrats have come to a stalemate over border funding, and neither party will budge as the partial government shutdown finishes out a 10th day.
The president wants $5 billion for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, but Democrats have whiffed at the demand.
“I’m in the Oval Office. Democrats, come back from vacation now and give us the votes necessary for Border Security, including the Wall,” Trump tweeted early monday. “You voted yes in 2006 and 2013. One more yes, but with me in office, I’ll get it built, and Fast!”
