Trump Jr. Advocates for Strong VP Amid Political Turmoil

By    |   Saturday, 23 March 2024 06:17 PM EDT

Donald Trump Jr. is urging his father, former President Donald Trump, to select a running mate capable of withstanding political attacks and striking back with force, according to an interview with the N.Y. Post.

"I want a fighter," Trump Jr. emphasized. "I understand what they are going to throw at us."

In contrast to the 2016 election, where then-candidate Trump sought balance in his running mate with Mike Pence, Trump Jr. now advocates for a tougher approach given what he describes as the "vicious nature of the swamp."

He stressed the importance of having someone who can endure the challenges of political warfare and named Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson as potential picks.

While Trump Jr.'s sister, Ivanka Trump, and brother-in-law, Jared Kushner, held senior White House positions during their father's administration, Trump Jr. indicated that he and his fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle, do not intend to become a second iteration of the influential White House couple.

However, he hinted at maintaining an active role in a potential Trump administration comeback. He expressed a desire to oversee the presidential transition in 2024, with Guilfoyle focusing on fundraising efforts.

Trump Jr. highlighted the importance of preventing what he called "D.C. swamp rats and swamp creatures" from infiltrating the government, indicating a commitment to upholding his father's agenda.

Regarding potential transition team members, Trump Jr. mentioned former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and former special assistant to President Trump, Cliff Sims, who he described as loyal supporters of America first policies.

"There are so many great people to choose from now with the first four years of the administration, you have a good understanding of who would be great and loyal and implement the America first policies," he said.

Following his father's recent warning to President Joe Biden regarding the potential repercussions of pursuing legal action against a former president, his comments echo Trump Sr.'s cautionary message delivered at a New York Young Republicans gala in December.

"[Biden] opened up a Pandora's box that will never let our country be the same. I can only say to Joe: Be very careful what you wish for, but what you have done is a terrible thing."

However, Trump Jr. downplayed his father's remarks as "jokes," indicating a more lighthearted interpretation of the situation.
