High-profile attorney Theodore Olson has declined an offer to join President Donald Trump's legal team, The Washington Post reports.

Olson, a seasoned litigator, served as solicitor general in the George W. Bush administration. The Post said Olson, 77, has long been considered a legal superstar.

An unnamed source said senior adviser Kellyanne Conway had recommended Olson to Trump. However, the Post noted, he had previously declined an offer to join the legal team.

Olson, in turning down the offer, cited too many potential conflicts of interests within his law firm, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where he is a partner.

The newspaper said mounting concerns over special prosecutor Robert Mueller's team's possible interview of the president has sped up efforts to bring in high-profile attorneys on Trump's behalf.

Trump is already planning to hire attorney former U.S. attorney Joe diGenova, The New York Times reported. That move is seen is also seen as an attempt to strengthen the legal team.
