Trump on Manafort: 'Old Charges Have Nothing to Do With Collusion'

President Donald Trump said that Paul Manafort’s trial is based on “old charges” and is not connected to charges of collusion with Russia.

Paul Manafort worked for Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole and many other highly prominent and respected political leaders. He worked for me for a very short time. Why didn’t government tell me that he was under investigation. These old charges have nothing to do with Collusion - a Hoax!

Manafort, Trump’s onetime campaign chairman, is on trial in federal court on bank and tax fraud charges, as prosectors allege that he did not pay taxes on millions he made from work for a Ukrainian political party, The Washington Post reported.

Trump returned to Twitter two hours later to suggest that Manafort is being "treated worse"" than 20th century mobster Al Capone.
