President Donald Trump is headed to Capitol Hill Tuesday to huddle with House Republicans and urge their support of the GOP plan to repeal and replace former President Barack Obama's health care law.

House Speaker Paul Ryan's office says Trump plans to make his pitch at the House Republican conference meeting; the American Health Care Act bill is expected to hit the House floor on Thursday.

It'll be Trump's first appearance at the weekly House Republican Conference meeting since becoming president.

According to the Washington Post, GOP leaders intend to offer changes to the current legislation — which has come under fire from both conservatives and moderate GOP lawmakers – to solidify support.

"While I’ve been in Congress, I can’t recall a more universally detested piece of legislation than this GOP health care bill," Freedom Caucus member, Michigan GOP Rep. Justin Amash, tweeted Monday.

Trump has been hard at work trying to win over crucial support, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz saying Sunday that administration officials negotiated with him and other conservative leaders through the weekend at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort on revisions to the bill, The Post reported.

According to the Post, Cruz was at the Florida meeting along Utah GOP Sen. Mike Lee and North Carolina GOP Rep. Mark Meadows, chairman of the hard-line Freedom Caucus. They met with Vice President Mike Pence and other administration officials, but not with Trump himself.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
