President Donald Trump called the infamous White House discussion he had with two Russian officials "a very, very successful meeting" Tuesday.
In the wake of a revealing Washington Post report that claimed Trump shared highly classified information with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, Trump was asked about it after he and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke at the White House.
"We had a very, very successful meeting with the foreign minister of Russia. Our fight is against ISIS, as Gen. McMaster said," Trump said, referencing a press conference his national security adviser conducted earlier Tuesday.
"I thought [McMaster] said and I know he feels that we had actually a great meeting with the foreign minister, so we're going to have a lot of great success over the next coming years, and we want to get as many to help fight terrorism as possible."
The White House has been playing defense since the Post story broke early Monday evening. Trump defended his decision to share information with the Russians, saying he had the "absolute right to do" what he did.
