Trump Calls NFL Player Killed by Illegal a 'Preventable Tragedy'

Tuesday, 06 February 2018 09:01 AM EST

President Donald Trump said the death of an NFL player at the hands of an illegal immigrant in a drunken driving accident was a "preventable tragedy," and called on Democrats to get "tough" on border security.

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson, 27, was killed early Sunday when a pickup truck driven by a twice-deported illegal swerved to the side of the road, crashing into the pulled-over vehicle Jackson was a passenger in, killing him and the driver of the ride-sharing service.

According to police, Manuel Orrego-Savala, 37, "is in the United States illegally and has previously been deported on two occasions, in 2007 and again in 2009."
