Donald Trump on Sunday night disputed a Washington Post story that said Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was on his short list for vice presidential candidates.
The Post quoted Dr. Ben Carson, who has been on Trump's team to find a running mate, as saying Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are on the list.
Not so, Trump said on Twitter. He mentioned Rubio by name, adding that "most" of the other names were also wrong.
Trump's tweet confirms reporting last Tuesday
by Newsmax's John Gizzi that Rubio had been eliminated from the list of prospects.
According to Gizzi's report, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tops Trump's list. Gingrich has said
he would consider the offer if Trump makes it.
Trump and Rubio had a rocky relationship before Rubio suspended his own campaign, with Rubio, in an effort to revive his flagging fortunes, mocking Trump's hand size. Trump responded by nicknaming Rubio "Little Marco."
