President Donald Trump is once again touting television ratings, this time claiming "politics has become a much bigger subject than the Super Bowl."
During a Friday morning meeting with his economic advisory group, Trump said he "heard this morning ... watching the news was that — amazingly, it's never happened before — that politics has become a much bigger subject than the Super Bowl," Politico reports.
"This is usually Super Bowl territory, and now they're saying that the politics is more interesting to people," he added. "So that's good."
Football ratings declined 8 percent last year, on average, according to The Atlantic. Despite the falling viewers, the National Football League already have commitments from TV networks and distributors worth $50 billion through the early 2020's.
Trump slammed former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger shortly before 3:30 in the morning on Friday for the low ratings of "The New Celebrity Apprentice," the latest version of the reality show franchise that formerly starred Trump.
This followed Trump's criticism of the actor at Thursday's National Prayer Breakfast, after being introduced by "The Apprentice" creator and producer Mark Burnett.
"They hired a big, big movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to take my place, and we know how that turned out," Trump said, according to Politico.
"The ratings went right down the tubes. It's been a total disaster. And Mark will never, ever bet against Trump again, and I want to just pray for Arnold, if we can, for those ratings, OK?"
