Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump shot back at criticism from former Defense Secretary Robert Gates Wednesday, saying Gates was "disloyal" to his former bosses in his memoir on his time in the White House.
Gates on Sunday addressed Trump's foreign policy speech from last week, saying Trump "doesn't understand the difference between a business negotiation and a negotiation with sovereign powers" and doesn't have the ability to listen to advice.
"Well, I don't think Gates understands," Trump told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "I mean he was also very disloyal to numerous people that he worked for. I don't like people to go out and write books and criticize everything."
Gates has criticized President Barack Obama and members of his administration for their Afghanistan policy.
"I don't think he understands, and I don't think he understands the word loyalty," Trump said. " And, frankly, I really believe I understand it much better than he does."
Trump said America is a debtor nation, and he will change that as president.
