President Donald Trump reiterated his position Thursday night that the Russia story is fake news and a product of Democrats after they lost the election.
Speaking during a rally in Huntington, West Virginia, Trump called the Russia story an "excuse" fabricated by the left.
"The Russia story is a total fabrication. It's just an excuse for the greatest loss in the history of American politics," Trump said. "It just makes them feel better when they have nothing else to talk about.
"What the prosecutors should be looking at are Hillary Clinton's 33,000 deleted emails, and they should be looking at the paid Russian speeches and the owned Russian companies. Or let them look at the uranium she sold that is now in the hands of very angry Russians."
Rumors that the Russian government colluded with the Trump campaign last year have dragged on for months. There are several ongoing investigations looking at the issue, including a Department of Justice probe headed by former FBI director Robert Mueller. The latter now includes a grand jury.
Trump has denied that anything illegal or improper took place.
"Most people know there were no Russians in our campaign — there never were," Trump told the crowd in West Virginia. "We didn't win because of Russia. We won because of you, that I can tell you."
"Have you seen any Russians in West Virginia or Ohio or Pennsylvania?" Trump continued, listing states he won last year before quizzing the crowd: "Are there any Russians here tonight? Any Russians?"
The president added that Democrats are "trying to cheat you out of the future and the future that you want. They're trying to cheat you out of the leadership you want with a fake story that is demeaning to all of us. And most importantly, demeaning to our country and demeaning to our Constitution."
