President Donald Trump blasted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., over criticism aimed at the administration’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.
Trump’s comments came in a Tuesday tweet. He called Schumer “incompetent.”
The president wrote: “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is complaining, for publicity purposes only, that I should be asking for more money than $2.5 Billion to prepare for Coronavirus. If I asked for more he would say it is too much. He didn’t like my early travel closings. I was right. He is incompetent.”
The White House on Monday sent lawmakers a budget request for $2.5 billion to address the deadly outbreak.
But Schumer ripped into a shortage of kits to test for the virus and the president’s proposed budget cuts to health agencies.
And he said: “We have a crisis of coronavirus and President Trump has no plan, no urgency, no understanding of the facts or how to coordinate a response,” Schumer said.
