Trumpeting a bull market, unemployment at a "17-year low," and repatriation by U.S. business, President Donald Trump tweeted Congress is "getting closer and closer" on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
President Trump's tweet followed another rip of "fake news" media spending far too long on negative stories instead of the positive ones changing the face of the U.S. economy since his election.
Both the House and Senate have passed tax reform legislation, which contain subtle differences currently being worked out in a conference committee. It is expected to be melded together to put a tax reform bill on President Trump's desk by Christmas eve.
The conference committee is going to hold an open meeting Wednesday among members to discuss the details of a final package. Democrats on the committee, of which none of them voted for tax reform in the House or Senate, had called for three open meetings and "complete analysis" by both the Congressional Budget Office and Joint Committee on Taxation before a conference report is finalized, The Hill reported Friday.
