New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is asking the Obama administration to foot the $35 million bill for securing Trump Tower, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

Safeguarding the building and President-elect Donald Trump since he won the election Nov. 8 has proven to be an expensive headache for the city. NYPD cops placed at Trump Tower are primarily working overtime because the city cannot decrease security in other parts of the city, de Blasio told reporters at a press conference, and traffic has been a logistical nightmare. The daily cost to protect him and his family average around $400,000.

Trump has held most of his transition meetings at his home in Manhattan and media outlets, supporters and protestors are constantly staked outside the building.

"This is a highly trafficked, dense urban environment, and one that presents an unprecedented and unique target for potential terrorist activity," de Blasio wrote to Congress, per CNN. "No other President in modern history has had his primary residence located in such a densely populated neighborhood."

The cost to protect Trump and his family will not subside when Trump moves to Washington, D.C., as wife Melania and 10-year-old son Barron plan on staying in the city until at least early summer.
