The number of people impacted by President Donald Trump's travel ban is 90,000, The Washington Post reports.
"President Trump and his aides love to cite a small number and a big number in order to minimize the impact of the president's executive order suspending the visas of citizens of seven countries," the newspaper said in its Fact Checker column.
"But these figures are incredibly misleading."
The newspaper said the 325,000 cited by Trump is "pretty meaningless because the number of people who arrive in the United States on a given day is not the issue."And it said the 109 number is "old and rather dubious," it said.
"The real number is about 90,000," the newspaper reported.
The Post said the number reflected State Department figures showing how many people received either nonimmigrant or immigrant visas from the seven affected nations in the fiscal year 2015.
The number does not include potentially tens of thousands of others who hold dual citizenships, who also are affected by the order, the Post said.
And the newspaper concluded: The Trump White House figures are "ludicrously low."
"The universe of people likely affected by the travel suspension is around 90,000 – not 109," it reiterated. "The White House should also not use the overall daily number of travelers as a comparison."
