Like a game of Chinese whispers, President Donald Trump on Monday accused former FBI Director James Comey of breaking the law based on a misleading tweet by Fox News, The Washington Post reports.

The chain of events:

The errors detailed by The Post:

  • The Hill did not report Comey passed along confidential info.
  • Of the four memos, The Hill did not report that any contained "top secret" information — the highest classification.
  • The memo Comey leaked was one of the three that contained zero classified or secret information.

In fact, no one has accused Comey of passing along any form of secret information, nor has any outlet reported that.
