President Donald Trump on Thursday said Washington's "relationship with Russia is at an all-time and very dangerous low," and blamed Congress for the situation.
Trump's comment comes one day after he reluctantly signed into law a bill imposing new sanctions against Russia, which was approved overwhelmingly by Congress.
The law limits the president's ability to lift sanctions on Russia or return diplomatic compounds seized by the Obama administration over Russian meddling in U.S. elections.
Trump also lashed out at Congress Wednesday in a statement about the bill, saying that "[b]y limiting the executive’s flexibility, this bill makes it harder for the United States to strike good deals for the American people, and will drive China, Russia, and North Korea much closer together."
Moscow called the sanctions a full-scale trade war and an end to hopes for better ties with the Trump administration.
