More than 40 percent of Trump voters queried in a recent poll think white people face a lot of discrimination. Clinton supporters, meanwhile, think Muslims, blacks and Latinos face more judgment in the United States today.
The poll, conducted by YouGov and Huffington Post and published Monday, showed a drastic difference between Clinton and Trump supporters. Overall, though, 64 percent of the nation thinks that Muslim Americans face a lot of discrimination, up 10 points since a survey taken in June.
Fifty percent of all voters polled think black people face a lot of discrimination while 44 percent say the same about Latinos.
The numbers are eye-opening considering how race played a major role in the 2016 presidential election. Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, won in a surprising landslide, proving pollsters and analysts wrong by a large margin.
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton failed to energize African-American, Latinos and young people to get out and vote like President Obama did in 2012. Trump won the white vote by a record margin – 58 percent to 37 percent – and performed better among Hispanics than Mitt Romney did in 2012.
