Fifty percent of registered voters said sexual misconduct accusations against President Donald Trump are credible, while 29 percent said they are not and 21 percent were not sure, according to a new Politico/Morning Consult poll released on Wednesday.
During last year’s presidential campaign Trump was accused of sexual abuse or harassment by more than a dozen women, some of whom have come forward again recently hoping that a renewed discussion on sexual harassment nationwide would give their allegations more serious attention.
Trump has denied their claims, calling them false accusations.
Other results from the survey show:
- Among Democratic voters, 62 percent said the allegations are mostly credible, while 25 percent said they were not.
- Among Republican voters, 38 percent find the charges credible, and an equal percentage said they are not credible.
- Among Independents, 50 percent said the allegations are credible, and only 24 percent said they were not
- The poll has asked this question for the past four weeks, and the results have been mostly stable, with those finding the allegations credible hovering between 46 percent and 53 percent, while the percentage who said they are not credible fluctuating between 26 percent and 32 percent.
- Trump’s overall approval rating has dropped slightly, from 45 percent last week to 43 percent this week. Fifty-two percent of voters disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, up one point from last week’s survey.
The Politico/Morning Consult poll surveyed 1,955 registered voters from December 8-11, with most of the interviews completed before three of the women accusing Trump of sexual misconduct held a press conference on Monday to tell their stories.
