Trump: My VP Pick Will Be 'Great Republican,' Not Democrat

("Fox & Friends"/YouTube)

Donald Trump said Friday he's still looking at potential vice president picks, but he's not saying yet who is on the short list or who is not, but one thing is for sure — it won't be a Democrat.

"I won't mention names because I don't want to embarrass anybody," Trump told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" show. "People are saying 'I have decided to turn it down.' They were never on the list. In all fairness, I won't embarrass them. But senators and governors, they're saying I have decided not to accept — I never even talked to them."

Those people are not only not on the list, but they wouldn't be chosen, but Trump said he figures that such talk is "politics, I guess."

Further, he said he is ruling out naming any Democrats at all, even though Ben Carson, who has been involved in the discussions, told The Wall Street Journal Thursday "we would consider people who are Americans and who put America first," and that Democrats could be included.

"I would rule him out, or her out," Trump said of Democrats. "I want to have a great ticket. The Democrats have been in there a long time and the economy is terrible. The real unemployment rate is probably 20 percent . . . No, I'm going to pick a great Republican. We'll have a tremendous victory. We're going to win."

Fox News noted that there are some delegates who are saying they are for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and would give Trump their votes if they consider the one-time candidiate as a vice president, and Trump agreed there a "a lot of things" he'd consider the senator for, because he likes him.

"Marco has been saying really nice things, as did Rick Perry," said Trump. "He called me one of the most talented people he's seen run for office. That's a long way back and I appreciate it from Rick because I like Rick. I always liked Rick.

"But that's what I mean. He gave me an endorsement yesterday. John McCain gave us an endorsement. We had so many endorsements yesterday."
