President Donald Trump declared Tuesday that "the wall's going to get built" in his first term — despite news reports that he had changed his mind on his major campaign promise over budget issues.
"The wall is very, very important," Trump said after signing an executive order directing Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to ease regulations for farmers.
"In your first term?" a reporter asked.
"Well, it's certainly — yeah," the president responded. "Sure. Got plenty of time."
Trump earlier Tuesday ripped "fake" news reports on Twitter saying that he was softening his positon on the wall along the border with Mexico as Congress agrees on a spending bill for the rest of the current fiscal year.
"The wall is going to get built, folks," Trump said at the White House. "The wall's going to get built — and it's going to stop drugs and a lot of people from coming in that shouldn't be here.
"It’s going to have a tremendous effect on human trafficking.
"We're already preparing," the president said. "We're doing plans.
"We're doing specifications. We're doing a lot of work on the wall."
