There should be no question of Tulsi Gabbard's patriotism, chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., told "Fox News Sunday."
"I do hope, though, that we won't see anyone questioning her patriotism," Cotton said of President Donald Trump's pick for director of national intelligence.
"You know, Hillary Clinton has basically called her a traitor in the past. [Gabbard has] served more than 20 years in our nation's Army. She's passed five different background checks. I reviewed the latest one; it's clean as a whistle.
"It's fine for people to have policy differences and ask questions about those differences. I hope no one would impugn Gabbard's patriotism or her integrity."
Gabbard's hearing is slated for Thursday at 10 a.m.
Gabbard joined the Hawaii National Guard in 2003. She voluntarily deployed to Iraq, serving two tours. According to CNN, Gabbard is currently serving as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve.
