Twitter encountered some hiccups following Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Due to a company glitch, the President’s new Twitter account @POTUS gained automatic followers, including some who claimed they had never followed the @POTUS account, had unfollowed it prior to Trump’s inauguration or had the account blocked.
The glitch happened with the @FLOTUS, @WHITEHOUSE, @PressSec and @VP account as well.
Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey said on Saturday that the company believed the issue affected about 56,0000 people.
"This was a mistake, it wasn't right, we own it, and we apologize. No excuses," he tweeted.
The @POTUS account under President Obama had 13-plus million followers. All of the tweets from Obama’s account as President were archived and, a new account was created for his followers – @POTUS44. Obama’s followers were set to be transitioned to his account and to the new @POTUS account, Twitter said prior to the Inauguration.
But that didn’t seem to happen quite as expected.
