President Donald Trump's tweeted taunt to Kim Jong Un about the comparative sizes of their respective nuclear buttons had Twitter howling — and a Democrat lawmaker demanding congressional input to "put this lunacy in check."

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman needled Trump, tweeting, "Also there's a red button for Diet Cokes," referring to the newspaper's report of Trump's appetite for 12 of the diet sodas a day.

"The Daily Show" weighed in with a jibe, "at least he thinks we'll make it to Monday."

Ben Jacobs, political reporter for The Guardian, tweeted how he remembered "when these fights were about hand size and not nuclear button size."

The Times' culture reporter David Itzkoff tweeted:

NPR's Stephen Thompson joked, "just kiss already."

Actress and singer Cher weighed in as well, calling Trump "a nut job" who "may gt us into a war" by playing a game of "whose is bigger" — concluding "they're probably both the size of 'Tom Thumb.'"

Meanwhile, Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., demanded Congress get a say in any nuclear engagement.
