Dem Strategist Sheinkopf: Obama to Blame for 'Chaos' in Ukraine

Wednesday, 19 February 2014 04:55 PM EST

President Barack Obama and his ineffectual foreign policy are to blame for the unrest in Ukraine, where at least 26 people have died in anti-government protests, veteran Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf says.

"Barack Obama and the foreign policy of this administration are responsible for this. It's very simple," Sheinkopf told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"He did not protect our relationship sufficiently with Ukraine and Poland, both the entries for the Russians, historically, into Europe. He sat back and he watched and he let the Russians do whatever they want," he said Wednesday.

Story continues below video.

Sheinkopf says the United States and Russia are in a new Cold War.

"The reality is very simple: Poland afraid, Ukraine in chaos, Georgia under fascist dictatorship, the Middle East in chaos."

Sheinkopf agrees with Newsmax CEO and Editor Christopher Ruddy, who in a column published on Wednesday took Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky to task for resurrecting the sex scandals of Bill Clinton.

"Chris Ruddy is 100 percent right," Sheinkopf said.

"It doesn't help Rand Paul – and by the way, it doesn't help Republicans because that is a chapter that people kind of want closed. I've had enough. They had enough at the time, they've had enough now."
