By    |   Friday, 01 June 2018 10:16 AM EDT

President Donald Trump blasted Canada on Friday saying it "has treated our agricultural business and farmers very poorly for a very long period of time."

In a morning tweet, Trump said Canada must take down trade barriers.

Trump has enacted tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union. The tariffs – 25 percent on imported steel and 10 percent on aluminum – take effect Friday.

Trudeau has called the tariffs "totally unacceptable."
