Rep. Mike Kennedy, the Utah Republican running for Senate, says his top three issues are debt reduction, debt reduction and debt reduction.
"We can’t continue to spend money the way that we are and not expect serious repercussions to our country. So debt reduction is a major issue to me," Kennedy told The Daily Herald of Provo.
He believes President Donald Trump’s tax cuts were a step in the right direction, because corporations can now hire more employees.
"So to grow the economy by cutting down on the federal government’s burden that they place on us, that’s also another way for us to get out of debt," Kennedy said.
Kennedy, who has served since 2013 in the Utah House, is vying for a seat that will soon be vacated by longtime U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch. He is one of 11 other Republicans including former presidential candidate and favorite, Mitt Romney, in the race.
