Democrat Van Jones said Wednesday he wants to see Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus run the Democratic party, not current Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Speaking on CNN, Jones argued that Wasserman Schultz has committed "leadership failure" of the party as Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders tangle for the presidential nomination.
"You may have a leadership failure in both wings of the party, and then Debbie, who should be the umpire, who should be the marriage counselor, is coming in harder for Hillary Clinton than she is for herself. That is malpractice," Jones told host Brooke Baldwin.
Mediaite captured video of the interview.
"I wish Reince Priebus was my party chair. He did a better job of handling the Trump situation than I've seen my party chair handle this situation. I'm ashamed to say that."
Baldwin appeared stunned by the remark, to which Jones replied, "Yeah, I said it."
The discussion centered on the chaos at the Nevada Democratic Convention last weekend, which saw
Sanders backers involved in violent outbursts because they were angry about the process of choosing delegates.
Sanders released a statement on Tuesday, saying, "If the Democratic party is to be successful in November, it is imperative that all state parties treat our campaign supporters with fairness and the respect that they have earned."
Wasserman Schultz appeared on CNN Wednesday and said she has not spoken to Sanders about the incident, but Nevada Sen. Harry Reid has. "We don't need to pile on,"
Wasserman Schultz said. "A conversation was had."
"We have a process set up that is eminently fair," she said, adding that the same rules have been in place "for many years."
