Vice President Mike Pence is headlining a fundraising dinner on Monday for his leadership PAC that is expected to net some $500,000, an administration official told Politico on Sunday.
Pence launched his Great America Committee PAC last year and is hoping to use it to bolster his party's war chest ahead of what is shaping up to apparently be a difficult midterm election season.
The fundraiser, to be held at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, is expected to attract numerous congressional Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, as well as Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.
President Donald Trump's oldest son, Donald Trump, Jr., will introduce Pence, according to the official.
The dinner is part of an all-day event the PAC is hosting at the hotel, which is expected to attract many of the vice president's financial backers. Pence is also scheduled to speak at a lunch for the event.
Money raised from the fundraiser is expected to be used to bolster the campaigns of Republican candidates in the midterms, especially those in competitive races.
In additional efforts aimed at the midterms, the vice president is also set to start a cross-country campaign schedule that will include more than a dozen trips in the next few months, including an appearance this Friday for Rick Saccone, who is competing in a March special election for the Pennsylvania House seat vacated by former Rep. Tim Murphy.
A White House official, in explaining Pence's heavy campaigning schedule, told The Washington Examiner that "We're long on accomplishments and short on getting credit for them right now, and that's what midterms are about."
The official added, "The onus is on us to go make the case to the American people that the policies are working."
