West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey continued his criticism of Senate primary opponent Don Blankenship on Sunday, claiming the ex-mining CEO has not filed his personal disclosure forms as required by the Ethics in Government Act, according to The Hill.
"Laws exist for a reason," Morrisey said in a statement, per The Hill. "There are no exceptions or waivers for a rich coal baron who has already been found guilty of conspiring to violate mine standards."
Morrisey, backed by conservative Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is not the only Republican attacking Blankenship as bad for the GOP. According to Politico, the party is fearful of a Blankenship surge to win Tuesday's primary for the nomination to oppose incumbent Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., in this November's midterm election.
"His biggest supporter is Sen. Chuck Schumer [D-N.Y.]," Morrisey said. "Don would be the top recruit of Chuck Schumer this cycle because he hands the election to Joe Manchin."
Also, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted for the GOP to "reject" Blankenship.
